It’s Your Choice!
If Nicor is your natural gas utility, you can decide who supplies your natural gas through the Customer Select program.

Corn Belt is the only alternative supplier who has been providing natural gas to Nicor Gas customers since the Customer Select pilot program began in 1998.   With Corn Belt, you’ll get a competitive, variable therm price and access to local, experienced professionals with no additional service fees.

If you’re selecting Corn Belt Energy as your natural gas supplier for the first time, sign up online at www.cbecgas.com and you’ll receive a $10 check after your first billing.

If you’re a Corn Belt electric member, you’ll also receive a one-time credit of $10 on your electric bill once we begin supplying your natural gas.

 

Plan Descriptions
We offer two variable-rate plans; and whichever plan you choose, the monthly price per therm is all-inclusive.  The rate is based on the average cost of gas in inventory, all balancing, storage and program fees, taxes (if applicable), and our operating margin of 5.25 cents per therm.

Winter Protection Plan
Based on your usage history, the cooperative will purchase up to 80% of your gas requirements before November 1, with the goal of protecting you from the volatility of the winter market.  If you use more or less gas than was purchased on your behalf, your price per therm will be adjusted according to the market price.  You’ll benefit from this plan if it’s an extremely cold winter causing higher market prices.

Market Advantage Plan
Based on your historic usage, approximately 30% of your gas is purchased in the summer (per Nicor storage requirements) with the remainder purchased monthly at market prices.  You will benefit from this plan if it’s a mild winter and market prices remain stable or decline.
 
     

Once your application is approved, you’ll receive a letter from Nicor Gas stating the approximate starting date, which could be up to 45 days after enrollment.  Corn Belt Energy will also send you a separate confirmation. 

Nicor Gas will continue to serve as your gas utility.  Call them at 888-642-6748 for gas emergencies, meter readings, billing, moving or service.  Since Nicor Gas will still be delivering your natural gas, Corn Belt Energy is not responsible for any gas interruptions due to events beyond our control.
